Maps have been the focus of Anna Bella Geiger’s approach from the 1970s until today.

Equations (1977-1978) reveals Geiger’s concepts on mathematics, account for divisiveness within Latin America, her home continent, and its metaphoric displacement within the world.  In Equations, she suggests a new world order by juxtaposing mathematics with cartography and implements a new outcome with a content of its own.

The artist’s drawings effectively state that disparate elements on the continents must be united in order to assert a strong presence in our world.

These maps highlight how her critical conceptual practices have remained significant and relevant to this day, not only within the field of art history and geopolitics but also within the greater communities in which her works are made.
